Like Serge Jolimeau, Michée Ramil Remy is from an epicenter of Haitian metalwork, Croix-des-Bouquets. This is where Remy learned parts of the metal arts from his step-father and others. The Soleil is a recurring image in the work of many Haitian metalworkers, and here Remy incorporates a wheel of birds as well as the bright points of the sun.

The origin of the Haitian metal works in our Collection remains a mystery. They were removed from a wall in Rhoads Hall, saving them from possible destruction prior to the builiding’s renovation. There were nine metal cuts in total from the three artists displayed here.
