GNDR 200: INTRODUCTION TO GENDER STUDIES
FALL 2017

Title

GNDR 200: INTRODUCTION TO GENDER STUDIES
FALL 2017

Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course serves as an introduction to a variety of interdisciplinary, multicultural, and
historical approaches to the study of gender. As this course serves as an introduction to gender
studies, we will not be able to discuss every aspect of gender around the world, but we will
examine various topics that impact our engagement with the world around us. These topics
include sexuality, race, families, work, body image, violence, and health. Our exploration will
begin by examining gender as a social construction. We will examine important historical
moments and movements, the intersections of race and sexuality with gender. This class is
reading and writing intensive, as one of the goals of this course is to hone your critical thinking
and critical writing skills.
